FASHION REWIND: Spring 2008 - Stella McCartney

Model - Anja Rubik; Photo: Marcio Madeira

How could we feature Spring 2008 RTW, in all its feminine allure, without a spot on Stella McCartney. One of my favorite designers, Stella really knows how to capture feminine simplicity. Her designs allow the wearer to exude ease and beauty seemingly effortlessly; such an art; such an artist.

FACES
- loose, natural hair, a pinch of flush and color on cheeks and lips topped by a hint of moisture, and fresh, natural eyes finished with a simple thin black lining and mascara

FASHION REWIND: Sping 2008 - Chado Ralph Rucci

Model - Colette Pechekhonova; Photo - Marcio Madeira

Continuing our retrospective of Spring 2008 RTW fashions, more femininity can be witnessed in Chado Ralph Rucci's collection for the season (shown: Oct 7, 2007, Paris).

FACES
- again we see sleeked back hair tightly woven and pinned to the back of the head, but this time very dramatic black-lined eyes with tiny rhinestone accents and soft, fresh pink lips

Models - Svetlana Lazareva, Linda Vojtova, Mariya Markina, Flavia De Oliveira

FASHION
- fabrics, sourced from the top of the ultraluxe tier, make expensive-looking canvases for the detailing; Asian obi effects and Da Vinci-inspired illustrations on filmy silk dresses represented Rucci’s art and architecture stance

Models - Milana Keller, Coco Mitchell, Viviane Orth, Elena Sudakova, Du Juan, Elsa Sylvan

Blake Lively: An American in Paris

Blake Lively

For her Vanity Fair pictorial during spring/summer ’08 Fashion Week in Paris, Blake tried on an array of haute couture creations. Above, she lounges leisurely in a tulle Atelier Versace dress at the renovated le Meurice Hotel.

This 33-pound Swarovski-crystal-encrusted
satin gown by Dior features 6,000 sequins—
handstitched with gold thread, obviously.

Lively vamps it up in Gaultier Paris
on lantern-lit Rue Visconti, in a
setup inspired by an iconic Helmut
Newton photograph.

Lively recalls the glamorous pinups
of Hollywood’s past in an Armani Privé
dress, with makeup by Chanel.

Lively, photographed here with
French pop band BB Brunes,
called this Chanel look “Sofia
Coppola’s take on Alice in Wonderland.”

Demarchelier Captures Fair Angelina

Famed photographer Patrick Demarchelier (remember his name being thrown around in The Devil Wears Prada? ..."Get me Demarchelier!", "I have Patrick on the line" ...) wows us with a stunning vision of Angelina on the cover of July's Vanity Fair magazine.

The magazine hits next week. In it, Angie reveals to writer Rich Cohen her feelings about life, love, marriage and her career. (click image to enlarge)

A few more highlights:

Angelina Jolie on being pregnant:
“I love it. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel that all the things about my body are suddenly there for a reason. It makes you feel round and supple, and to have a little life inside you is amazing. Also, I’m fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depend-ing on their partner. I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy.”

Angelina Jolie on her international family:
“When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn’t have parents. It’s not a humanitarian thing, because I don’t see it as a sacrifice. It’s a gift. We’re all lucky to have each other. I look at Shiloh—because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little—and say, ‘If these were our brothers and sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were six that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?’ I suppose I’m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.”

Angelina Jolie on Shiloh’s birth:
“We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born. I don’t think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. It ended up being the greatest thing…. I had a C-section and I found it fascinating. I didn’t find it a sacrifice and I didn’t find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do.”

Angelina Jolie on nannies:
“We don’t ever have anybody spend the night. We may have to adjust that when the next one comes. But we do have ladies that work with us, and they’re also from different cultures and back-grounds. One lady’s a Vietnamese teacher—wonderful. One is of Congolese descent from Bel-gium. Another is from the States and is really creative and does art programs.”

Angelina Jolie on artists as parents:
“Artists raise their kids differently,” she said. “We communicate to the point where we probably annoy our children. We have art around the house, we have books, we go to plays, we talk. Our focus is art and painting and dress-up and singing. It’s what we love. So I think you can see how artists in some way raise other artists.”

Nick Is Steppin' It Up

Could we get more adorable than Nick from BravoTV's Step It Up and Dance? ummm ... not much.

Again, please forgive the digression from all things beauty, but this show has really showcased some stunning beauty in its own right. I've been enjoying watching the show since the get-go and Nick has been my fave all along. I'm so glad to see he's pushing through to the top. Last night's performance was breathtaking, very emotional to watch. You go, gorgeous!

blogs_nick.jpg

janelle.jpg I'm gonna miss my little Janelle, though ... (tears) ... I love the power, energy and soul in her dance. She'll be writing some tickets of her own though, quite confident about that.

You know, it's really hard to pull for just one of these phenoms in the finals. They're all so, so talented - Cody has that broadway appeal, Mochi is just the epitome of gracefulness and beauty, and Miguel is so fluid, he makes the dance seem effortless (yes, we know it's quite hard).

So, I'm gonna ask you anyway .... care to place a little vote for your fave?

Givenchy Fall/Winter 2008 - Dandy Collection

Givenchy's inspiration for their upcoming collection? 19th Century Dandies

Hmmm ... do we like? Well, this collection plays with masculine and feminine elements to create an elegant, edgy, and flamboyant look. The look contrasts a strong dark-toned smokey eye in masculine greys and purples with sweet, delicate feminine baby-pink lips and cheeks, rather than a purely neutral lip/cheek. The collection is set for release in August with the mascara (below) set to come out mid-September.

Interesting is the packaging:

Prism Again! Shimmer'Eyes in Precious Shimmer

Lighter gold, purple, and grey pearlescent shades and a dense matte black base (black dots on white background). When used, the polka-dotted surface disappears revealing the base underneath which can be used to line or blend with the other shadows to alter their appearance.

Prisme Again! Shimmer'Eyes in LE Smokey Shimmer

Dense metallic shades in blue, purple, and silver-blacks accompanied with a a matte white base (white polka-dots on black) to soften the look.

LE Pocket Beauty Case designed to appear like a delicately etched men's pocket watch compact. The case opens to reveal a pink and white pearly highlighter than can be used on the cheeks and lips.

Phenomen'Eyes Mascara - quite different, don't you think? An elegant little spherical brush designed to reach every single lash on the eye; as it applies vertically it is said to reach root to tip coating each lash. Now here's the good stuff - it's a water based, polymer mascara (my favorite kind) which sticks to the lashes, separating and lengthening them and will comes in shades of black and brown.
