REVIEW: Multiple Beauty Award Winner Relastin Eye Silk

It says something when you win Allure Magazine's Best of Beauty Editors' Choice award three years running. That's exactly what Relastin Eye Silk has accomplished, winning for the third year in a row Allure's Best Anti-Wrinkle Cream. These awards go to the products Allure's beauty editors choose as the best, having had the good fortune to try thousands of beauty products each year.

Developed by Reverance Therapetics, a specialty biopharmaceutical company, company president and CEO Dan Browne offers, "Eye Silk's Zinc Firming Complex has established itself as one of the top anti-aging technologies. While its results are clinically proven, the consistent enthusiasm from top beauty editors validates how well the product works for the consumer."

The company boasts Eye Silk's patent-pending Zinc Firming Complex is the first technology that is clinically proven to increase elastin production. While many anti-aging products focus on collagen production, Eye Silk is reported to go beyond this benefit by increasing the amount of functional elastin fibers in the skin - a key structural protein in skin. Elastin stops being produced by the body in our teens, and as a result, skin loses resiliency and slowly begins to sag and wrinkle. Zinc Firming Complex, featured in all three Relastin products, penetrates skin, and works at the cellular level to help stimulate elastin production. The company reports they completed studies in September 2006 that clinically demonstrated Relastin's ability to help increase functional elastin in the skin, visibly decreasing fine lines, coarse wrinkles, and undereye laxity and puffiness. They say study participants also noticed a decrease in undereye dark circles after four weeks of Eye Silk application.

REVIEW: So here's my experiene. First, let me 'fess up that I've wanted to try this ever since Kristin Kelly, the consummate beauty connoisseur who writes Beauty Addict, first talked about the compliments she was receiving at makeup counters after using Eye Silk. For some reason, I didn't break down and buy it, as other products continued to tantalize me, though always in the back of my mind I knew there'd come a day.

Relastin Eye Silk is a powdery gel formula that spreads very easily, similar to the consistency of Smashbox Photofinish Primer. A little goes a long way; it only takes a smaller than pea size pump (not even a pump really) to pat onto the undereye skin of both eyes to do the trick. I've noticed truly visible results, having used the product for about four weeks, applying at night and some mornings. The wrinkle minimizing is the biggest positive effect, though dark circles do appear slightly less noticeable as well. I'm not noticing any reduction in undereye puffiness, an issue I'd very much like to diminish, but I'm thrilled with the other results.

The product has no scent, is light and airy in texture, blends very easily so as not to pull delicate skin under the eye. For me, this product has definitely given me positive results in firming the undereye area, reducing appearance of wrinkles, and softened the overall appearance of my undereye area. I'm loving it!

Relastin Eye Silk is available in a .5 fl oz pump dispenser retailing for about $69 at the following stores as well as through dermatologists nationwide: Bliss Spas, SkincareRx, Dermstore, Relastin, SkinStore, SpaLook and Perfume Worldwide (where the product is usually offered at discounted pricing).

WIN: Allure Editors' Favorite Sexy Fragrances!

Attention: Drool worthy content for you from Allure magazine!

Not only is Allure's July issue with Fergie on the cover chock full of fantastic beauty tips, articles and product news, but their big giveaway this month is jaw-dropping. Up for grabs, their 10 favorite sexy fragrances. Yes, all ten of them to one lucky winner. Included:

Fracas by Robert Piguet
Those who cringe at frilly floral notes love this rich, sultry bouquet of tuberose, jasmine, and gardenia. $110 for 3.4 oz.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her
This warm, sensual fragrance starts with honey and amber, then quickly transforms into an addictive musk. $89 for 3.3 oz.

Frédéric Malle Noir Épices
With nutmeg, rose, and patchouli, this spicy oriental whispers, "Come closer." $200

Tom Ford Black Orchid
This elegant blend offers the best of all worlds—it's citrusy, sugary, and flowery. The creamy vanilla notes make the scent completely irresistible. $92

Vivienne Westwood Boudoir
You know the saying "Go big or go home?" This is the fragrance version of it—with bold notes that include cinnamon, coriander, amber, vanilla, and sandalwood. $98

Chanel Cuir de Russie
The name means "Russian Leather"—and while we can't vouch for the Russian part, we can attest to the fact that this smells every bit as rich as a good handbag. $200

Gucci by Gucci Eau de Parfum
Patchouli usually rubs these editors the wrong way. But here it simply helps ground light, fruity notes, like guava and pear, to create a scent that's both sweet and seductive. $100 for 2.5 oz.

Guerlain Mitsouko
This mix of oakmoss, bergamot, and peaches has a brash, cheeky sex appeal. $68

Armani Code Eau de Parfum
With soft orange blossom and just a hint of jasmine, this scent has all the friendliness and innocence of the girl next door. $75 for 2.5 oz.
~ This is one of my favorite sensual, sexy fragrances too. Sooooo seductive! ~

Kai Perfume Oil
No surprise here, since reaching cult favorite status this perfume oil still flies off the shelves. The gardenia-based scent is light enough for day and hearty enough for a long, hot night. $45

Allure's Tips for the Hottest Hair This Holiday Season

Model Natalia Vodianova

Top hairstylists Garren, Chris McMillan, David Babaii and others reveal to Allure how to get some of the most coveted celebrity hairstyles this holiday season and into the new year.

The cut above on Natalia is entirely classic. "This is a very simple, A-line bob that almost anyone can wear," says Babaii. "Ask for a chin-length, mostly blunt cut that is slightly longer and more layered in front, which helps it curve toward the face."

Naomi Watts's layered cut is ideal for those with natural waves. It has slightly graduated layers, with the longest one in the front, says Garren. "It's all in the way you style it—use a medium-barrel curling iron to create soft waves from the crown to the ends."

Liv Tyler. "Liv's cut is about as blunt as a haircut can get—there are virtually no layers," says hairstylist Garren of the Garren New York salon. "Ask your stylist to make it collarbone-length in the front and just a touch shorter in the back. You should be able to part it on the side or in the center, and if it starts to feel too severe, make some gentle waves with a curling iron."

Marley Shelton. Not all '80s hair is bad. To get this punk look, "request for a cut thats boy-short, yet softly layered, on the sides and back," says Paul. "The top should be longer, with thinned-out ends; the bangs should make a diagonol line, starting mid-forehead and ending just below the brows."

Katie Homes. This jaw-length bob is timeless. To get it, "ask that it be slightly shorter in the back with very subtle layering throughout," says McMillan. "It should also have bangs that are completely blunt and straight and cut just above the eyebrow." Don't attempt this cut if your hair is not straight; "ask for longer, side-swept bangs" if your face is slightly round.

Gisele Bundchen. "The entire head is long layer after long layer," says Babaii. "The front section is also heavily layered and chopped-into to give it a piecey look." Ask your stylist to thin the ends—"that will help the hair look tousled."

Nicole Richie. "This is a great style for people who don't want to spend on their hair but still want it to look stylish," says McMillan. "Just ask for lots of face-framing layers—they shouldn't be shorter than the cheekbones—and minimal layering in the back. And if your hair is very thick, cut into the ends to lighten it up a bit."

Mariska Hargitay. "This is a great cut for straight hair that's thick or thin—it's basically chin-length and asymmetrical with side bangs," says hairstylist Garren of the Garren New York salon. "Ask your stylist to cut long and short choppy layers all over—in the back, sides, and around the face. The back can be the same length as the front or much shorter and choppier, depending on your preference."
