Philosophy Eternal Grace Spray Fragrance ... Huh?

Ok, so I just received my bottle of philosophy Eternal Grace, which I'd pre-ordered from QVC several weeks ago.  I've been perusing the community forums, perfume blogging sites and the like looking for what folks think about this variety of "Grace". Comments are pretty much what I expected. Let me be upfront in what philosophy fragrances are my faves in case that is helpful to you in analyzing my thoughts on the fragrance; I'm an Amazing Grace - Inner Grace lover. My own personal quick and low down on Eternal Grace is this:

1)  It's nothing like Amazaing Grace.  I've seen lots of folks asking if it smells like Amazing; it doesn't.  I would agree with most that the fragrance it smells most like, in the Grace family, is Pure, but I don't find Eternal captures the same "fresh and clean" scent of Pure in the same way. At all, actually.

2)  I'd also agree with those who think this particular fragrance belongs more in the Love family of philosphy fragrances and not the Grace family.  Eternal feels more like Falling in Love than it does anything in the Grace family.

3)  The notes, which I suppose philosophy wishes to remain a mystery as I can't find the notes listed anywhere, seem to be a frustration for many other philosophy-girls as well.  My experience of Eternal Grace is an overwhelming smell of violets.  It smells like violet on first spray; it smells like violet after drydown, and it still smells like violet hours later.  My personal opinion is that violet is not really a "fresh, clean, energizing" note, however others may disagree with that.  Philosophy is toting Eternal as a fresh, clean energizing citrusy scent with multi-dimensional note experience.  I'm not getting the multi-dimensional aspect.  I smell violet, overwhelmingly, from start to finish.  Yes, I can certainly detect some citrus, probably bergamot, but other subtle notes escape me. 

4)  I don't agree with lots who have organized this fragrance into the sickly sweet category.  On me, it's not all too sweet.  Now, having said that, the whole violet experience does come into play here in that one might be reminded of childhood memories of those violet candies when sniffing a wrist, and there might evoke a feeling of sweetness.

So my final analysis of Eternal Grace is this: underwhelmed and a bit disappointed.

I'm definitely more a Grace girl than I am a Love girl in terms of philosophy fragrance families and I just wouldn't put Eternal in the Grace family.  It's a lovely scent.  I'll wear it for sure.  Would I say I actually like it?  Probably not.  But it's the kind of "probably not" that infers had I picked up the bottle of Eternal at a department store counter I'd have put it back on the shelf and not scurried to the checkout counter with my credit card in hand needing to have it variety of probably not.

So where is American Designer Michael Kors' largest boutique being born? Why Paris, of course. 

Kors has a window display larger than 600 meters squared planned for spring 2011. His first boutique in France, it is his largest in the world and his fourth in Europe after London, Milan and Munich. Word is Kors is chomping at the bit to “return to the city of lights.” There, he will present his ‘Kors’ and ‘Michael Michael Kors’ lines as well as his accessory range (leather goods, shoes, glasses, watches, perfumes).  With a desire to spread more of his line throughout Europe, Paris will certainly serve as a well seated throne.

Tuscany at Villa Le Maschere , Anyone?

So allow me the indulgence as I can't help myself on this one. True, I'm posting this as much as a reminder and "file" shall we say for me in hopes of a future trip to Tuscany (come on, baby, let's go ... pleeeeeease) as much as I am sharing the glory of this place and deal with you. xo

Two of the more romantic words in travel are “Tuscan villa” – and the lovely, 16th-century Villa le Maschere is exactly that. The beautifully restored villa features carved stone masks on its façade, gold-leaf tiles, Venetian-style flooring, historical frescoes, and suites with lacquered-wood beds. The villa rises elegantly over fragrant Italian gardens – with Florence and Tuscany lying just beyond.



JETSETTER REVIEW

Villa le Maschere’s exquisite architecture is matched by its guest list: Kings, queens, popes, artists and Italian noblemen have all warmed the beds here. It’s easy to see why: Villa le Maschere captures the best of Tuscan culture – and history.

As you stroll up the breezy front walkway, the lovely façade may stop you in your tracks. Carved masks, made with local pietra serena stone, grace the front, offering an intriguing taste of what awaits within. The spacious, airy villa reveals historical surprises around every corner: frescoes by painter Francesco Furini, detailed floral reliefs, Majolica ceramics dating to the Renaissance, and Venetian tiling.

The suites are fit for a king – literally. Each of the 65 suites is individually decorated, with a distinct color scheme, from periwinkle to lemon yellow. Suite 915 features two 17th-century statues of young girls, while suite 901 showcases fully restored 18th-century frescoes.

The villa’s history is impressive, but, happily, modern conveniences haven’t been sacrificed. Rooms come with high-end TVs, complimentary Internet, designer toiletries and fluffy robes. The white marble bathrooms – spacious, with classic arches and moldings – could double as Parisian pieds-à-terre.

It may be hard to believe, but there was a time when Villa le Maschere was in such disrepair that it had almost fallen out of commission. But after five years of “painstaking restoration” the villa emerged as a five-star, luxe property. In many ways, then, staying here not only offers the chance to bed down in a historical monument, it also helps ensure its survival.

Most travelers come to Italy to indulge in a very important activity: eating. The villa excels at this; you can dine on traditional Tuscan dishes, including pasta slathered with meaty swordfish and black olives, at Piopponero; come evening, you can sip vino amid the restored brick vaults of the cellar bar, Divinvino.

As for day trips, the villa offers easy access to Florence and the rest of Tuscany. Visit the famous Uffizi Gallery in Florence and peruse the works of masters from Leonardo da Vinci to Michelangelo. Explore the medieval walled villages of Mugello, and wine-taste your way across the fragrant, leafy region of Chianti.

WHAT TO DO THERE

Art, Art, and More Art. Florence lies less than an hour away. Pay a visit to the splendid Uffizi, which features one of the finest art collections in the world, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Caravaggio and Rembrandt.

Chianti Classico. Sip your way across the leafy vineyards of the nearby region of Chianti, known for its rich, weighty red wines. The concierge can arrange a trip, or go with one of the many tour companies, including Italy and Wine.

Manhattan of the Middle Ages. Explore the delightful historical town of San Gimignano, which lies about an hour away. During the 13th and 14th centuries the town was built up with an impressive 16 imposing towers.

Jump in a Lake. The villa lies near the breezy lake of Bilancino, which you can explore by canoe or even on a windsurfboard. The concierge can arrange trips.

Medieval Mugello. The nearby region of Mugello features lovely medieval walled villages and ancient churches, including Borgo San Lorenzo, Firenzuola and the Medicean Bosco ai Frati convent. The villa can arrange tours, or try Discover Tuscany.

Flights are available from major U.S. cities to Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR) on a variety of carriers with connections through Rome International Airport (FCO). As many of you know, Bottomless Closet helps disadvantaged New York City women become self-sufficient through a comprehensive program that begins with business attire and interview preparation and continues with professional development, financial management and personal enrichment. Using the model of women helping women and a network of dedicated volunteers, Bottomless Closet enhances clients’ self-esteem and self-confidence in order for them to enter and succeed in the workforce and improve the quality of their lives.  Oh how I wish we had a Bottomless Closet here in N'awlins!

Next weekend - June 27, 2010

In collaboration with the New York Liberty, they will host a unique women’s 9+ Size Shoe Drive at Madison Square Garden during their game against rivals Connecticut Sun. Larger size shoes are always in need for the clients they serve, and this is one way to help and have fun at the same time!

The New York Liberty Women's Basketball Team has been a remarkable supporter of Bottomless Closet. and they're starting their 2010 season with this amazing event!

Liberty is selling reduced price tickets (available through the link below). A portion of the income from these tickets sales will be donated to Bottomless Closet. The proceeds will be presented to them during the fourth quarter of the game so hope many of you can come out and support them and the Liberty!!
