Bye Bye, Prescriptives. Thanks a Lot, Estee Lauder.

I'm really disappointed by this one. Estee Lauder announced yesterday it is shutting down the cosmetics, skincare and fragrance brand Prescriptives. Ya know, every time I think, "Hey maybe it's time to give Estee Lauder (the brand) another shot," the company does something like this. Not the first time the company has disappointed its customers with closings and shutdowns, sure it won't be the last.

I used to love shopping Estee Lauder's family of brands on gloss.com. Remember them? They closed that site, wanting folks to shop the brands individually and in-stores rather than offering the convenience of a one-stop online shopping experience, similar to the Sephora online concept but with MAC, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Origins, Prescriptives, Clarins, Clinique and a few others. Great brands, right? Meow!

Scale back? Sure. Cut back on Px counters? Ok. Shut down the whole brand? Really? Uggggh!

Prescriptives Flawless Skin Foundation has been a staple in my makeup bag for years. I love the thin, oil-free, lightweight texture, which also happens to provide great coverage and long-term wear. There's not another foundation out there like it. And their Magic Liquid Powder is one-of-a-kind as well. The way it plays with light to minimize imperfections and pores, the loose, translucent powder was ahead of its time. Prescriptives has also historically appealled to women with hard to match skin tone due to their custom blending of foundation shades. {Heavy sigh} Really, I'm still in shock by this announcement.

Just checked Prescriptives online and they're already starting to sell out of stock. If you're interested in gathering up some of your Px favorites, better get going before they're gone forever (of course, there's always ebay). As of now, Prescriptives is slated to be gone by end of January. They're offering a free gift with minimum purchase on certain products (see side column for info), so guess they're giving folks a little extra something for your patronage.

Oh, they will still offer Px Calyx fragrance, by the way, through EL's Aramis and Designer Fragrances partnerships. Come on, really? Of all the brand's products you decide to continue rolling out, Calyx? Well, if you like it, you're in luck.

In fact, Lancôme's Dual Finish was my first ever high-end or department store beauty purchase of any kind way back when I was a teenager (it wasn't 30 years ago, though, sheesh, did you think I was that old ...). REVEW: This is a foundation light and airy in texture, almost like mousse or a whipped consistency that is easily dispensed from the bottle through the pump dispenser. I've been using the product for a couple of weeks now and have had no problems with dispensing as we sometimes find with other bottles over time. The foundation itself is generously pigmented with minerals and blends effortlessly into skin. The coverage is what I'd call medium, covering problem areas and redness very nicely. The skincare and sun protection benefits of this foundation make it extra special. Skin is hydrated and lines appear less noticeable. It's also long-wearing. I have combination skin type; I have only to apply the foundation once in the morning for all-day coverage. It emhances your natural complexion without appearing overly dewey or matte, just healthy and luminous. I applied a little primer (no moisturizer) and set the look with a light translucent mineral powder and was set to go all day, no dryness, not wearing off, fully sun-protected. Nice!

I have a new foundation love!

I like the brush, it's very soft, to apply the product from the compact to my face, but to blend I find it much easier and more effective to use my fingers. As such, the creamy formula melts effortlessly into skin and provides such wonderful coverage that even my harder to cover reddish areas are concealed. Yet, it's not at all cakey or heavy. I am thrilled with the mineral SPF element, which as you may have noticed is broad spectrum protecting against both UVA and UVB rays. The foundation lives up to its claims; it is a creamy texture that dries to a silky-powdery finish. Furthermore, it held out for me all day. I kept checking the ladies' room mirror expecting to have to touch it up - nope. It was the same from morning until 7 pm. Although I'm a cool toned, pinky skin tone, Camera Ready's light yellowish tint lends a flawless match to my skin - just love it! As you may expect, or hope, a little goes a long way, thus the $38 price is certainly a value. This foundation met all my hopes and expectations and even exceeded them in the coverage factor.

REVIEW: Lancome Absolue Bx Makeup

I wondered if I'd like this new foundation being such a huge fan of Lancome's Teint Idole foundation. I could hold out no longer hearing and seeing ads that talked about how wonderful it was; I purchased a bottle.

Now, I should start out by stating I'm near 40 (but holding on to 39 as long as I can), have combination skin type (normal/oily) prone to reddish, uneven skin tone. By definition, Lancome Teint Idole is really better formulated for my skin type, but I just had to have this new one too with its anti-aging properties.

WHAT I LIKE:

• It has sunscreen of SPF 18 built in - yea!
• The pump dispenser, frosted glass bottle packaging
• It comes in a wide range of shades (12 to choose from)
• This is an extremely creamy, rich textured foundation, very soothing
• Although lush, it is a silicon-free formula that keeps it from settling in lines and pores
• The coverage (med - full) is fantastic, better than I'd even expected
• This is a superbly blendable foundation, appearing almost flawless post-application
• It does, in fact, even out my skin tone
• True to its marketing, the foundation does restore hydration and suppleness to the face
• Stays in place all day (10-14 hours) without having to re-apply or touch-up

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:

• It's $57 USD - yikes! That's expensive for a bottle of foundation; even my holy grail foundation Giorgio Armani LSF is less expensive
• It may be a little heavy (rich) for summertime use down here in the South for a combo-skinned gal, but won't know for a month or so

Calvin Klein at Sephora

It's back! Calvin Klein cosmetics is relaunching its makeup through Sephora and soon in retail stores (some already have it). The "concept" here is to relate the makeup with the current season of Calvin Klein fashions, thus a slick, shiny lipgloss marries a patent leather accessory, or a soft, smudgy eyeliner carries over to a cashmere top - you get the drift.
