Seems more than ever before, eyes are tuned in to the husband and wife designer team that creates Daughters by Obedient Sons. Swaim and Christina Hutson, newly minted CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nominees, showed a wardrobe inspired by dreamy utopias designed with a serene and sun-bleached prairie palette, with loads of tactile linens, chunky laces, and hand-knits that spoke of the finer things. Followers of DbOS have come to expect the duo—who were exclusively menswear designers until a few seasons ago—to tailor a perfect jacket and give it an edgy spin, and they delivered by cutting them in austere linen and pairing them with high-waisted trousers and shorts. They're creating for the laides noe with girlish Watteau-back baby-doll dresses and the ladylike coupling of tiny tees and poor-boy knits tucked into palazzo pants. The designer couple is clearly itching to nudge their daughters out of the masculine/feminine nest. But while the newly feminine looks are delicate and beautiful, it's still their more unique knack for subverting masculine classics that makes people focus in and wanting more.
