Spring 2009 RTW - Gucci Sings the Blues

There are many reasons to love makeup artist Pat McGrath. Her friendly calm, cool, collected backstage-chaos demeanor keeps her among editors’ favorites. Her unparalleled ability to come up with new design concepts—which typically include bold experiments with color—are legend. And her creative artistry on a facial canvas is simply unmatched. Many don't realize this, but McGrath lends her expertise to CoverGirl cosmetics every season as creative director for P&G. She personally formulates new palettes for what is perhaps the best catwalk-to-sidewalk collaboration available at your local drugstore.

Just take a look at what she's created for the Spring 2009 RTW Gucci show. She's reinterpreted the smoky eye using turquoise and blue shadows for a look that’s bright and springlike keeping the sexiness of basic black (but heavy) coupled right along with it. Luckily, you won’t have to wait until March to take your own azure test run: The pigments she crafted for CoverGirl’s new Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows are currently available for your trial-and-error pleasure. Yea, Pat!

NY Mag Spoils Project Runway Surprise? Say It Isn't So

Oh no, oh no ... you really didn't, did you?

Has New York Magazine set off alarms everywhere and spun a little spoiler for the ending of this season's Project Runway in showing which designers are backstage with collections at Bryant Park? And are there more than three? Hmmmmmmmmm ........ Maybe they didn't, but maybe they didn't.

I'm not going to display any photos here, but I'm just sayin' .... ; -)

Elle, That Means You're Out

Changes are a-brewing for future Project Runway shows. New York Magazine reported yesterday that Marie Claire will sponsor the next season of Project Runway. Auf wiedersehen, Elle. The show will move to Lifetime TV and Los Angeles. I'm going to miss it being on Bravo as I've fallen in love with many of the Bravo reality series shows. Heavy sigh ...

It really comes as no surprise since we knew former Elle editor Nina Garcia would stay on as a judge, and she started her new gig as fashion director of Marie Claire a few weeks ago. So the show now has a new network, a new city, and a new sponsor. OK! Magazine caught up with Nina at a Marie Claire party to celebrate her joining the magazine, and the opinionated fashionista had nothing but wonderful things to say about her new gig. "I’m very excited about Marie Claire," she says. "It’s a magazine that is deeply passionate about women’s issues. It offers practical, yet beautiful fashion. That ties very much into my philosophy, my books. It’s the perfect match."

The two-part finale for the current season of Project Runway airs Oct. 8 and 15 on Bravo.

Pajama Party - Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009 RTW Collection

Natasha Poly in the show closing garment - fabulous!

MILAN, September 25, 2008
A preshow video named the collection "Pigiama Barocco." That meant classic gentlemen's silk pajamas, spotted or striped, with lots of bejeweling in the models' hair and on brooches, for starters. Big poufy skirts came into it, too, and tiered-lace cardigans, and then gilded brocades that took a sideways segue into some of those flat, exaggerated geometric constructions that are popping up all over.

For evening, the designers also nailed a couple more rising trends: mini-crinis in bouncing semi-sheer skirts, and sumptuously encrusted paillette embroideries. Finale-wise, it was all-out with romantic ball skirts studded with roses. In other words, not a whiff of economic anxiety was detectable within these four walls, and that in itself was curiously cheering.

The "Fabulousness" of LA MER Oil Absorbing Lotion

La Mer Oil Absorbing Lotion is an oil-free, oil-absorbing fast-penetrating formulation that hydrates, yet leaves a soft matte finish for hours—perfect for normal-to-oily and oily skins.

The Oil Absorbing Lotion contains the same amount of renowned Miracle Broth™ as the original Crème de la Mer. It possesses all the coveted benefits of the original Crème without compromising any of the extraordinary properties that make Crème de la Mer a skincare legend.

Just like the Crème, The Oil Absorbing Lotion is rich with sea kelp, vitamins and nutrients that undergo a highly intensive four-month bio-fermentation process. This is the exact process that preserves and empowers every ingredient of Crème de la Mer.

The Oil Absorbing Lotion is simply a lighter version of the original. The texture provides freedom of choice for those who desire Crème de la Mer in lotion form for times when a crème may be too rich.

Crème de la Mer's Miracle Broth™ is suspended within its extraordinary formula. To activate the broth and release its key ingredients, warm a small amount between your fingertips. As you pat onto clean, dry skin, you will instantly feel the soothing effects of the broth. Smooth over your face, neck, even under the fragile eye area. Apply day and night.

You've heard about Creme de la Mer before, so the brand itself isn't new to you. What may be new to you, though, is some of the history behind the "miracle". Crème de la Mer was conceived under extraordinary circumstances. Years ago, Dr. Max Huber, an aerospace physicist, suffered a horrific accident — a routine experiment exploded in his face — covering him with severe chemical burns. Neither science nor medicine offered sufficient promise of help, so Huber decided to help himself. Twelve years and 6,000 experiments later, he perfected the Crème that would help give skin a dramatically smoother appearance.

Crème de la Mer defies the laws of nature. At the heart of the Crème is a highly potent Miracle Broth(TM). There is nothing miraculous about its ingredients — sea kelp, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, lecithin, Vitamins C, E and B12, plus oils of citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa and sunflower. For Huber, it wasn't the ingredients but the way those ingredients were distilled that made all the difference between a good moisturizer and a small miracle. No doubt, Huber understood the ancient science of fermentation. And, he discovered that an amazing thing transpired as these ingredients journeyed from individual components into a nutrient-rich Miracle Broth(TM) — a process that took 3–4 months to complete. The ingredients did indeed transform into a whole far greater than the sum of its parts. Vital energies were spontaneously released and through this slow bio-fermentation process, Crème de la Mer was born. Gradually, but perceptibly, the amazing happened. The skin’s appearance was miraculously improved, just as Huber hoped. It became softer, smoother, more supple.

REVIEW: La Mer Oil Absorbing Lotion is nothing short of fantastic. This is a gentle lotion that quickly lends itself to firming the face and giving a matte effect to skin. This is not going to dry skin, in fact it's quite nourishing and hydrating, but will bring a fresh non-oily appearance to skin within seconds of application. I notice some oil-free and matifying products cause my skin to "pull" a bit when I apply foundation or other products on top. You'll not find this problem with La Mer's Oil Absorbing Lotion. With its fresh scent and fabulous effects, you'll not feel an ounce of guilt about spending the money for it. Yes, it is pricey, yet a little goes a long way and the results will leave you smiling. This is not a product you'll spend the money for with little to no apparent visbile results. You'll see the results, and you'll certainly feel them. Great job, La Mer!

La Mer's Oil-Absorbing Lotion may be found at select Holt Renfrew stores, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, StrawberryNet and at La Mer's online site.

Backstage at Giorgio Armani Milan RTW Spring 2009

The hair and makeup looks at Giorgio Armani Monday evoked a hot summer’s night. Makeup artist Linda Cantello created the steamy look with a charcoal grey eye that had a shimmery silver accent in the corners. This is easily achieved by dabbing a tiny bit of shimmery cream shadow on the inner corner of eyes. She also applied pink-gold blush, and daubs of Kiehl’s Since 1851 lip balm on the eyelids, brows and cheeks.“It’s a hot, steamy feeling,” said Cantello. Aldo Coppola extrapolated the idea with a wet-look hairstyle that seemed as if the models had just gotten out of the shower. Tucking a low, loose braid under itself, Coppola pulled wavy strands of hair on the sides for effect.
