Celebrities, designers and many of my blogging beauties gathered at New York City’s Cedar Lake theater on Thursday evening to celebrate M.A.C’s new Hello Kitty color collection (in stores February 12 and online now).
M.A.C’s Hello Kitty has ditched the school supplies and debuted last week as a fiercely stylish, grown-up lioness. In a long tradition of fusing makeup with fashion, M.A.C challenged designers to create one-of-a-kind Hello Kitty–inspired pieces for the event. The designs are being auctioned on eBay with all proceeds benefiting the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

“I didn’t think of Hello Kitty as a little girl; I thought of her more as a woman,” says Catherine Malandrino about her approach in designing this fuchsia frock. “She’s become a big girl with a more glamorous side. I chose to do a silhouette with a lot of waves—a very small waist, more shoulders, and a long curve through the hips.”
Marchesa, Elie Saab and Vincente Villarin had designs represented at the event. Hello Kitty got a dark, glamorous makeover courtesy of Zac Posen’s black-and-pink gown. Hervé Léger’s bandage dress had Hello Kitty flair, thanks to a bright pink ribbon across the bodice. The two faces of Hello Kitty - there's a 'wild kitty' and a 'mild kitty'. Mild Kitty? Well, she’s still wearing the bow, collar, and dress—but somehow Katy England’s Hello Kitty (the mild kitty) seems more sexy than sweet. =)
